Economic Benefits
The Chicago Clean Energy project will generate $10 billion in economic output for the state of Illinois and create thousands of jobs in Chicago and across the state and generate more than $1 billion in taxes at the state and local levels. Chicago Clean Energy is a privately financed project that involves no tax dollars.

With the Chicago Clean Energy project, Illinois will produce almost 5% of its natural gas supply locally. This would be a major improvement over our current dependence on imported natural gas.

During the construction period, the project will employ a daily average of 1,100 full-time construction workers and more than 600 additional workers in supporting industries. Once operational, the plant will employ more than 200 full-time workers and create nearly 500 additional jobs in local and supporting industries.

The jobs related to operations and maintenance of the facility and those related to the Illinois coal industry are sustainable and ongoing. With many of these power plants still operational after more than a century, we expect the facility to have a long life.
