Our Clean Energy Process
Chicago Clean Energy is a new generation of clean energy technology. We use a proven technology known as gasification to produce substitute natural gas from Illinois coal and petroleum coke.

Our state-of-the art facility converts local materials to a pipeline-quality substitute natural gas that can be used in stoves, dryers and furnaces across the state. Currently, no natural gas is produced in Illinois.

Gasification is a clean chemical process used to produce substitute natural gas. In fact, impurities and pollutants (such as argon, sulfur and mercury) are safely captured and removed upfront in the process in order to produce substitute natural gas.

Gasification is the future for Illinois coal. Our clean energy technology is an integral component of a comprehensive energy plan for Illinois, putting the state at the forefront of the green technology industry.

Our process is 99 percent cleaner than conventional power plants. We will capture 85% of the CO2 produced through the production process and position Chicago as a leader in new energy technology. Chicago Clean Energy will also restore a contaminated, brownfield site that would otherwise remain polluted property.
